Imagina Productions: Who We Are |
Imagina is still small (yet), and definitely different -- more interesting, we like to think. We invite you to join us in the adventure.
Imagina is an independent record label and publisher committed to quality music from different traditions, cultures, and regions of the world, particularly Russia and Central Asia. Our focus is on music and artists that reflect regional character and cultural influences -- including unique folk, traditional, religious, classical and popular styles.
Imagina has a specific goal of finding and producing music that has not received wide exposure in the West, providing deserving artists with a greater opportunity to have their work heard.
This internet site is one means we use to reach that audience. Our CDs, tapes, and CD-ROM projects are another. Please browse as much and as often as you like. (We plan to add new material and information as often as we can.) And pass the word - tell your friends, and feel free to post our URL (http://ip1.com/imagina) in any appropriate locations. Then support our artists and our mission, and hear the music in full digital quality stereo sound, by buying Imagina CDs and tapes. (For more information, see Finding & Ordering Imagina Recordings...)
We're based in Seattle, Washington, in the heart of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. In the last few years, Seattle has developed something of a reputation for innovative rock bands. But along with its international chamber music, film, theatre and folk festivals, as well as the growing reknown of its symphony and opera, Seattle is also active in fostering -- and discovering -- world-class talent in other areas of the arts. In addition, it has long enjoyed a full share of cosmopolitan cultural traditions and international connections. We've combined these traits with our own connections to the East, added some international joint projects, and come up with a mix we think you'll enjoy.
You'll find folk traditions, pop influences and classical disciplines. But we always look for music with regional elements reflecting the world's diversity of cultures.
The performers are just as diverse. We've sought out artists performing music from their own regions and cultures. The have often been quite well-known locally or regionally. In giving them a broader audience, the rest of us benefit from a larger, richer cultural experience . . . and get to hear some great music in the process.
