St. Petersburg Archives Collection |
St. Petersburg, Russia, is one of the world's greatest and most prolific musical cities. By one count, nearly 10% of the world's classical music repertoire comes from St. Petersburg. With all of the music created in St. Petersburg, it is perhaps not surprising that some of it, even from well-known composers, has remained virtually unknown. For years, manuscripts have gathered dust in various archives of the Soviet government as well as in private collections. Imagina's St. Petersburg Archives Collection presents great chamber music from the St. Petersburg of yesterday, performed by great St. Petersburg artists of today. The collection spans the baroque, classical and romantic periods -- and includes world-premiere recordings of many of the compositions.
