EXPERIENCE

I have been playing various percussion instruments in Tashkent, Uzbekistan most of my life.  Since 1979 I have been a member of Ensemble "Yalla", the most popular musical group in Central Asia, as a drummer, vocalist, composer and business manager.

With Yalla I've performed on tours, festivals and at contests in the USA (3 times), Germany (more than 20 times), Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Greece, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Japan (2 times), South Korea, Turkey, Israel, Mongolia, Afghanistan, India (national tour), Vietnam, Sri-Lanka, Bahrain, Morocco (2 times), Congo, Angola, Nepal, Maldives Islands, Mexico, and all the republics of the former USSR.

Since Uzbek independence in 1991, Yalla has participated in many official celebrations such as national independence day concerts, and performed by presidential summons at functions such as official visits and delegations on a daily or weekly basis.

In 1995 I toured Germany with the American dancer Laurel Gray performing as a drummer on the Uzbek national instrument, the "doira." (This tour was reviewed in German music magazines Tanz Oriental and Arabesquev.)

In 2001 I formed a new performance group, Ensemble “Safar”, with Uzbek folk musician Abdulla Shomagrupov.  Safar performs Central Asian regional folk music with entirely authentic acoustical instruments and voice, and has recorded a new CD at Turkistan Concert Hall Studio in Tashkent.
